Automatic Submission Prefixing

When jobs are submitted the the queue, you often want project or scene specific information in the submission name so you can differentiate on the queue - ‘Diffuse’ might be the pass name in many scenes, and 15 ‘Diffuse’s on the queue doesn’t help figure out which ones they are.

RenderPassManager Important Concepts

There are some points about the way RPManager operates that are important to understand.

A Render Pass - or just a ‘Pass’ or ‘Passes’ - is a set of parameters that define how 3dsmax renders an image sequence. Camera to use, what objects are visible in the scene, what environment effects are active, render effects that are active, output path, resolution, etc. The full version also allows controlling object properties per pass - material, visible to …

Welcome to RenderPass Manager

RPManager is an extension of 3dsmax, intended to make the task of managing multiple render ‘passes’ from a single scene file easy and User Error free.

What is a ‘Pass’ and why would you want to render you scene out to multiple passes? Look here for a description.

Q: When I submit to backburner, the dialog says ‘Connecting to 255.255.255.0’ and then ‘Failed to connect to manager’. How do I have RPM connect to my manager?

A: In the Network tab of RPManager, you can set RPM to find the manager to either auto-connect via the subnet mask parameter, or alternatively by IP or network name. (You have the same options from say monitor when connecting to the manager - same parameters).

What Is a Render Pass and Why Do I Need Them?

There are a number of reasons you may want separate render passes from a 3dsmax scene:

a. You want to break out the elements into background/midground/foreground to control Depth of Field.

b. You want to render your scene from multiple cameras, to multiple outputs.

RPM Properties/Visibility Per Pass in Xref Scenes

RPManager can restore passes within Xref scenes, which can be a powerful way to consolidate xref setups - ie no need for 3 different xref scenes of mostly the same thing with just some properties set/materials changed and visibility controlled when one scene setup with RPM properties can do the job of 3.
